□ 설립목적
같은 해외동포로서 바라보는 재일 동포들의 삶은 정말 쉽지 않습니다. 일제 식민지 시대로 부터 일본 내에서의 차별과 정부로부터의 탄압에 맞서 저항해온 역사를 바탕으로, 현재에도 당당하게 민족 공동체를 유지하면서 살아가고 있습니다. 재일동포들은 해외에 살고 있는 우리들이 어떻게 통일과 평화를 지향하는 동포로서 살아갈 것 인가를 우리에게 보여주는 하나의 지표이며, 그들의 실천적인 삶에서 우리는 많은 것을 배울 수 있습니다. 조국에서도 이러한 재일동포들과 협력하고 교류하는 사업들이 있어 왔지만, 우리는 같은 해외동포로서 재일동포와 교류, 협력하는 것은 곧 우리 해외 동포들의 삶을 정치, 역사적인 관점에서 정확하게 바라보기 위한 노력이라고 생각합니다. 이에, 오랫동안 준비하여, “우리학교와 함께하는 동포모임 Koreans for Woori Schools (K4WS)”을 결성하였습니다.
□ 주요 활동 및 계획
우리는 재일동포들과 함께 우리들이 사는 곳에서 우리 학교를 미국동포들에게 알리는 행사를 정기적으로 하며, 우리 학교를 향한 일본 정부의 탄압과 차별을 널리 알리고 그 저항활동을 지원하는 활동을 하겠습니다. 미주동포 이세들이 조선학교로 부터 배우는 교류 활동을 하겠습니다. 우리의 조국이 하나이듯이 해외동포들은 하나입니다. 여러분들의 많은 동참을 호소합니다.

□ 日本在住の同胞の生活がいかに困難なものなか、我々も十分理解しています。同胞たちは植民地時代から、絶え間なく差別と制度的な抑圧と戦いながら抵抗の歴史を築いてきました。彼らは今もなお、朝鮮学校とその周りに強力なコミュニティーを作っています。 同胞たちは、海外で朝鮮民族として平和と統一を追求しながら生きる豊かな例を我々に示してくれています。我々は彼らの経験と実践から多くを学んでいます。祖国からも日本在住の同胞を支援する取り組みはありますが、海外在住の韓国人として、我々の運動は少し異なる性格であってほしいです。同胞たちを支援するだけでなく、海外在住の韓国人として、お互いに交流し学びあうことを望んでいます。これは政治的・歴史的な意味においても正しい視点を維持するための取り組みだと思います。このため、私たちは長い期間にわたって準備した後、「Koreans for Woori Schools（K4WS）」という団体を設立しました。
□ 私たちは日本在住の同胞と共に立ちます。米国からも、日本政府の朝鮮学校への差別と体系的な抑圧を広く知らせていきます。定期的にイベントを企画・開催し、彼らの抵抗を支援します。また、在米2世の人々が日本にある「ウリㇵッキョ」との交流を通じてたくさん学べるようにします。祖国が一つであるように、海外在住の私たちも一つです。K4WSへの参加をお待ちしています。
□ 2016年、東京の朝鮮大学校60周年記念式に参加したのがきっかけで、朝鮮学校の民族教育に深い関心を持つようになり、それからもウリハッキョから学び、民族教育を支持する提案者へ。またイ・ヨンシクは「Koreans for Woori Schools」という団体を立ち上げ、在米の韓国人に「ウリㇵッキョ」が抱えている問題への意識向上と支援する人々の結集に取り組んできた。2021年5月からは「Koreans for Woori Schools」の運営委員長として、在米2世の韓国人たちが在日同胞とたくさん交流できるよう努めている。
□ Purpose
As fellow overseas Koreans, we have seen that the lives of Koreans in Japan are significantly challenging. Since the colonial period, they have fought against unrelenting discrimination and institutional oppression through which they have built a dignified history of resistance. To this day, they uphold decolonized Korean schools in Japan and have developed a powerful Korean community around them. They show us abundant examples of how to live abroad as Koreans pursuing peace and reunification, and we have much to learn from their lived experiences and practices. While in the homeland there have been efforts to support Koreans in Japan, as fellow overseas Koreans it is our hope that our movement would be a bit different in nature. Beyond supporting them, we hope to create exchanges and learn from one another as overseas Koreans. This is also part of our efforts to maintain correct perspectives as overseas Koreans in a political and historical sense. Accordingly, after long preparation we have established the organisation, Koreans for Woori Schools (K4WS).
□ Activities & Plans
We stand with Koreans in Japan. From our position in the U.S. we will widely publicise the Japanese government’s discrimination and systematic oppression of these schools. We will regularly plan and host events to raise awareness and support their resistance. We will make sure our 2nd generations in the U.S. could learn from the exchange with Korean Woori Schools in Japan. Just as our homeland is one, we as overseas Koreans are one. We call you for your participation in K4WS.
